Conditions before treatment:

  • Oxidation of the original varnish

  • Rip of canvas with preparation and color loss

  • Tension loss and deformation of planarity

  • Dust ans dirt 

  • Old framing technique 

Preventive treatments:​

  • De-stretching and de-framing

  • Flatten the edges

  • Dusted and dry cleaned

  • Application of Japanise paper

Conservation treatments carried out:

  • Structural Consolidation of the rip through the application of canvas threads, Polyammide powder and hot spatula

  • Selective Cleaning of the painted surface with gel (monitored through UV light observation during the process-see picture below)

  • Gaps Filling with stucco (chalk and rabbit skin glue)

  • Retouching 

  • Varnishing
